What It's about
Left in the Wreckage captures the emotional toll of being in a relationship with someone who hides behind a mask, refusing to truly engage. It’s a song about chasing connection only to find yourself lost in the wreckage of someone else’s illusions. When truth is avoided, when silence replaces honesty, the weight of unspoken words and shifting narratives leaves one person erased—caught in a cycle of distortion and retreat. It’s a haunting reckoning with what it means to reach for someone who will never meet you there. Listen now.
Lyrics
The Truth about you
Only shadows cast
You think you hide secrets
Behind that mask
You say I know nothing
No elaboration
But nothing’s not telling
Your mask’s incrimination
Paper-thin peace
A moment on loan
One step too close
You turn to stone
Truth too sharp
Fear too deep
We take the fall while you retreat
Left in the wreckage
Of the stories you spin
Erased and replaced
The next act begins
I reach for the truth
But it falls in the void
We’re a cloud of dust
Unlived and devoid
I trace the lines of stories you weave
Each thread pulls farther from me
No voice, no fight, no seeking of truth
Silence itself speaks for you
Left in the wreckage
Of the stories you spin
Erased and replaced
The next act begins
I reach for the truth
But it falls in the void
We’re a cloud of dust
Unlived and devoid
Words like colors
Painted bright
Use shadows for cover
Recasting the light
Heroes and villains
Tales retold
The mask is master
Its truths are cold
Left in the wreckage
Of the stories you spin
Erased and replaced
The next act begins
I reach for the truth
But it falls in the void
We’re a cloud of dust
Unlived and devoid
Mark's Notes
I've learned that there are people in this world who feel compelled, for various reasons, to hide from the world around them. Some wear masks because they've endured past abuse, shaping a self-perception that whispers, 'I'm not worthy of...' This song reflects a poignant encounter with someone deeply scarred by their history, who spent a lifetime crafting a persona designed to attract allies and attention. Incapable of confronting conflict, they would retreat from uncomfortable situations, even with those they professed to love and respect. Sadly, when you finally walk away from such a person after years of trying to help, they use their allies to reinforce their own narrative where they become the victim of the villain who walked away, perpetuating a painful cycle of rejection and repetition.
