Since the late 1970s, I’ve been listening to echoes—reflections of culture, history, and the voices of those who came before me. Storytellers, songwriters, and wandering bards saw music as more than entertainment. It was a way of life—a cultural imperative that shaped identities and dictated artistic expression. But too often, the weight of these echoes becomes overwhelming, crushing would-be artists before they can fully establish their own unique voice and way of life. The pressure to conform to established narratives and expectations can stifle creativity before it has a chance to flourish. Yet, within that struggle lies an opportunity—to recognize the echoes, learn from them, and still carve out something original. This project is an invitation to explore that balance together. A way of carrying history forward. And within those echoes, I’ve sought to refine my own voice—to find my place in the ongoing narrative of human expression.
Now, I’m bringing those echoes together in a project that intertwines music, storytelling, and the evolution of an artist over a lifetime. The Echo and the Voice is more than a book, more than an album, more than a screenplay idea—it’s all of it, and more. It’s the journey of a bard in a world where storytelling changed, where music shifted from a craft of heart and soul to an industry of algorithms and spectacle. It’s a reflection on what was lost—and what’s still possible.
This blog will document the making of The Echo and the Voice, giving you a front-row seat to the creative process. Here’s what you can expect:
- Stories from the Journey – The lessons, experiences, and moments that shaped this work (and me) over the years.
- Music & Lyrics – A look inside my songwriting process, how lyrics evolve, and how I’m using modern tools to bring decades-old songs to life in new ways.
- Excerpts from the Book – Snippets, reflections, and behind-the-scenes thoughts as the story takes shape.
- Screenplay & Vision – Exploring how this story could come to life visually, and the cinematic inspirations that fuel it.
- Community & Conversation – Your thoughts, interpretations, and discussions on the themes, music, and ideas shared here.
I don’t believe in holding creativity too close to the chest. Some worry about theft, but I know that what makes The Echo and the Voice unique isn’t just the concept—it’s the 40+ years of lived experience behind it. No one else can tell this story the way I can.
If this project resonates with you, I invite you to follow along. Join me as I shape this vision, pull songs from the archives, and let new ones emerge. Let’s rediscover what it means to be a modern bard.
